Seoul and the intelligence of the everyday wardrobe

Beyond a single silhouette

Seoul is often reduced to a recognisable fashion image: an oversized jacket, a controlled palette, a carefully chosen sneaker. That shorthand obscures a more interesting design conversation. Labels working from South Korea approach the everyday wardrobe through different priorities, from sculptural construction to technical function.

Post Archive Faction, founded in 2018, offers one reference point for clothing approached as an evolving system. Wooyoungmi and Andersson Bell bring different perspectives to tailoring and the meeting of cultural references. These are not interchangeable expressions of one national style.

Clothes in use

The productive question is what a garment permits its wearer to do. A jacket can be roomy without being shapeless; a technical fabric can serve a visual idea as well as a practical need. Seams, proportion and movement offer more information than describing an entire city as minimalist.

Similar questions about weather, mobility and the relationship between formal and casual dress appear in Singapore, Tokyo and Mumbai. The answers remain local, even when the clothes circulate internationally.
